The Faroese Geological Survey releases data from oil and gas related exploration activities on the Faroe Islands which have exceeded the confidentiality period.
In general data are kept confidential as mentioned below:
Licensing data: 2 years
Proprietary data: 5 years
Speculative data: 10 years
The Act concerning the use of the Faroese subsurface states that all data acquired during activities in the Faroese subsurface must be forwarded to Faroese Earth and Energy Directorate, which is the national databank for all types of data from the Faroese area. Seismic data that were acquired in the former white zone prior to the boundary dispute being resolved will not be released.
The national data repository
For the time being a total of 9 exploration wells, three onshore scientific boreholes and more than 150 cored shallow boreholes are available in the Faroese area. Additionally a total of 50.000 km of speculative 2D seismic data and 8000 km2 3D speculative seismic data is stored by the office, as well as proprietary seismic data.
